What do you know about Progressive Web Apps and it's importance?

With the implementation of the primary Mobile Index by Google, whereby a business mobile website is by default in the Google search engine results. it's clear that the highest priority for each business currently is delivering a wonderful user experience.

If your website was initially developed for desktops and laptops but is responsive to mobile devices. this can be more than sufficient enough to meet the requirements of Google’s mobile-first index. However, designing your website with mobile 1st is better i.e. you think about and style the mobile website user experience before the desktop and laptop version.

If you're already following mobile-first or need to require your existing web site or web application to following level, PWA(Progressive web Apps) is an exciting new prospect to interact with your customers.

In this post, we will discuss what is progressive web apps and why it is important for businesses.

What is PWA(Progressive Web Apps)?

PWA looks like a website but behaves like a native mobile application. It is a combination of features of web browsing with nice looking mobile application user experience, without any need to visit the app stores and have to download the mobile application.

The term PWA was established by the designer Frances Berriman and engineer at Google Chrome Alex Russell in 2015. Google provided the way for PWAs. However, in addition to support by Google Chrome they are now supported by web browsers like Firefox, Opera, and Microsoft Edge. Moreover, Samsung web browsers are showing their commitment towards PWAs and Apple has agreed to join in and is made available in Safari 11.1 for iOS 11.3.

Why are PWAs so Important?

Many businesses these days like the idea of having a native mobile application. Features like digital and intuitive user interface, offline availability, push notifications, and easy access from the mobile device home screen are appealing. However, the retention challenges and user acquisition of native mobile apps are sometimes too much of a barrier.

Native mobile apps operates in an extremely competitive market. According to Statista.com, currently there are over 3.6 million apps on Android, and it is growing at a rate of 1300 apps per day with an estimated downloads of 197 billion in the year 2017. In quarter 4 of 2017 alone 19 billion apps were being downloaded from Google Play Store.

Even if your app is downloaded successfully by your users, retention rates are still very low. 80% of mobile app are deleted once it is used, with most of the apps lossing 77% of its daily users within the first 3 days of installing the app and 90% of within first 30 days after app is downloaded.
